Ambition Snowskates Vs Others snowskates brands
Flatdeck snowskates are what we might call snow skateboards. The flatdeck type snowskate is mainly practiced in the street or in a snowpark, and consists of a simple wooden or plastic deck, grooved on the underside, and covered with non-slip foam grip on the top. In this field, Ambition is the historical leader. We offer you a comparison between the different snowskates taht you may find on the market.
Presentation of the Ambition snowskates range
Ambition JIB Series Snowskates
These are the most economical snowskates of the Canadian brand. Unlike other Ambition boards, the JIB Serie decks are made of plastic. This range is aimed primarily at beginners. The underside of the deck has 7 grooves to ensure good trajectory control on snow. On the top, a concave is integrated into the molding and covered with EVA foam grip. The shape is symmetrical and the angle of the kicks is very deep to allow the feet an easier grip. Only one size is offered: 8.5" x 32.5", which will fit the most of adult riders. Among the Ambition snowskates, this JIB series is the easiest to handle for novices. To take advantage of more pop and rigidity, we recommend storing the board in a cold place the day before use (car trunk, garage, etc.)
Ambition Team Series Snowskates
The Ambition Team Series snowskates are the most popular and are aimed at an audience of various levels. 7-ply maple deck with a solid color UHMW base very resistant to abrasion. 7 grooves for better control. It is noted that among the grooves, those placed closer to the edges are more square and deeper, while in the center, the grooves are wider and more rounded. The goal is to maintain a stable line on the snow, then gain agility when grinding. On the top, we will find a simple EVA foam grip without concave. Only one size is available: 8.5" x 32.5"
Ambition Premium / Pro Series Snowskates
The Ambition Pro Series is the most elaborate range and is aimed at experienced snowskaters & skaters. The overall construction is identical to that of the Team series. On the other hand, the Ambition Pro Series are distinguished by an addition of concave, and graphics in the sole. The Pro series, unlike the other ranges, come in different widths.
Hovland Flatdeck Snowskates
Hovland snowskate flatdecks are the most elaborate in terms of construction and are mainly aimed at an expert audience. The deck's core is made of vertically laminated wood and covered with fibre. Polyurethane sidewalls provide protection against impacts, and a perfect waterproof seal which avoids any risk of delamination due to moisture. As with the Ambition snowskates, the Hovland have an anti-abrasive UHMW 7-groove sole. Compared to Ambition, it can be noted that the grooves have a more rounded profile, which increases maneuverability (despite stability). For each model, the sole incorporates a graphic design. On the upper side, the EVA foam grip includes a concave in the same way as the Pro serie Ambition. We appreciate having the choice among 3 sizes: 8.5 x 34.75" / 8.875" x 35" / 9.5" x 36.5"
Ice Grind Snowskates
Cheap snowskates that you may find on marketplaces such as Amazon. Ice Grind snowskates are to be considered more like toys than real snowskates. The boards are entirely in PVC with 5 channels on the base. The deck has a slight concave on both faces which has the disadvantage of being on the snow side making the board very unstable and unwieldy. It is very difficult to control your trajectory, and edge stalls are frequent and unpredictable. Following some bad feedback, we considered that Ice Grind snowskates are too dangerous and do not meet the quality that we are entitled to expect from a snowskate bought in a skate shop. We have therefore decided to withdraw them from our shelves.
Decathlon Snowskate
Should we actualy use the name "snowskate" to define this Decathlon plastic machine which is closer to a children's sledge than a snow skate? As we are curious, we tried it. We were first surprised by the reduced format which gives the impression to an adult of standing with his feet half together. The shape of the board is quite original, with a space on each side for the feet, and a dome accompanied by a strap (too short for an adult) in the center supposed to allow the most beginners to stand up and throw ollies. We are still trying to figure out where to find the trigger point for the pop... The sole has a unique channel which allows you to keep a straight trajectory, but which makes turns very difficult. Children can find a bit of fun with the Decathlon snowskate if the idea is to let off steam and roll in the snow.
