Cannibal Marmots: Roller derby made in the French Alps!

Today we present to you the Grenoble Roller derby club Cannibal Marmots. A group that we know well, since the team guided Fulkit in the creation of the roller derby section in 2015. Since then, Fulkit and the Cannibal Marmots meet frequently at local games.

The Cannibal Marmots team is a Grenoble based club that has been very involved in the life of sport since 2011. In 2015, the Marmots were crowned with the sports trophy of the city of Grenoble.

The Cannibal Marmots are historically linked to feminism and the principle of self-management, which are the original values of Roller Derby in the United States.In 2018, the Grenoble team joined the WFTDA (Women's Flat Track Derby Association), an international federation created around the following values: REAL. STRONG. ATHLETIC. REVOLUTIONARY. For the Skaters by the Skaters!

The Cannibal Marmots is:

_A sports association made up of teams exclusively reserved for women + (cisgender women, gender minorities, etc.)

_Transmission of knowledge and experience thanks to the self-management of the association and the team

_Sporting values, such as self surpassing

_A strong collective spirit, fun, mutual aid and sharing

_Teams of various levels who have participated in RSMC championships since its creation.

A team that played in the N1 championship, a 2nd team created in 2016 which has been participating in the N2 championship since the 2018-19 season. The creation of a 3rd team during the 2018-19 season for friendly matches in the Auvergne Rhone Alpes region and sometimes further afield.

Like many associations, the Marmots have been affected by the Covid crisis. For the 2021-22 recovery season, the club has chosen to regroup into a single team that plays the N2 championship.

The Cannibal Marmots are fully invested in Roller Derby refereeing. They regularly travel to referee national and international friendly events as well as championship stages as referees with or without roller skates.Strong in sharing their experiences, different levels have been reached: Nso - HNso - CHNSO THNSO - Ref - HR CHR - THR.
