Landyachtz Tugboat: The cruiser skateboard king of pumptracks
Coming from the same roots as the Landyachtz Dinghy series of cruisers, the Tugboat adopts more generous dimensions and will be more suitable for practice in pumptrack, while being efficient in cruising. Here is our review and opinion….
To begin, we quickly introduce you to Landyachtz. "Landy" is a Canadian compagny based in Vancouver and founded in the early 2000s by a group of keen longboarders, including several downhill world champions. The brand quickly made a name for itself, and shone on the international downhill podiums with the EVO board, the brand's first big success.
Quickly, the Landyachtz team felt the need to shape a cruiser that could be used for daily trips while still having good versatility to throw some slides and tricks. The Dinghy makes its appearance and seduces with its versatility, comfort and superior quality to all plastic skateboards from that time. This is the beginning of the Dinghy success story, which will then be available in different widths (classic, Blunt, #9, Coffin) and a multitude of graphics (Skeleton, Chartreuse, Pinecone, etc.)
The end of the 2010s and the built of the first pumptracks created new needs among riders. We want short boards, but with a good width under the feet.
The Dinghy defends itself well in pumptrack, but we want more underfoot! Thus comes Tugboat, like a Dinghy on steroids. The 30" x 9.25" dimensions with a 15" wheelbase stick perfectly to bump tracks
We like the medium concave which makes us feel like in a slipper. The molded wheel flare limit the risk of the wheels catching under the deck, and add responsiveness under the toes.
The kicktail allows both to stall the foot and to do ollies. The raised nose prevents the front foot from shifting on the board as you turn.
On the mounting side, the Bear Polar 155mm trucks are solid, agile, and stable. What more ?!
The original assembly of the Tugboat is done with 2 wheels options:
Hawgs Lil Easy 60m 78a for a more "trick friendly" rig, or Hawgs Fatty 63mm 78A for more stability, grip, and better speed maintenance.
In bearings, Landyachtz did not scratch on quality. The Bear Space Ball Abec 7 with built-in spacers are powerful and solid.
Tugboat is available in several graphics: UV Bengal (changes color in the sun), Jetski fun,…
In conclusion, we recommend the Landyachtz Tugboat for those looking for a skateboard for cruising and pumptrack. The Tugboat will meet the expectations of riders of all skills levels, beginners as well as experts. We like the quality of assembly of the Tugboat, which stands out from the overall offer. The compact format allows you to take your skateboard with you everywhere, with a small footprint.
A Landyachtz Tugboat is available for testing at our Fontanil Cornillon(38) skateshop. come make your own opinion!
