Which is the best surfskate brand?
Hard to navigate through the surfskate options. A question that often comes up is: What is the best surfskate brand? The answer is subjective, but it's clear that depending on the use and the feeling you're looking for, certain brands stand out...
The brand that most faithfully captures the sensations of surfing on water:
The Yow Meraki system from the Spanish based company is very likely the one that will give you the closest feeling to riding on water. The front truck, articulated with a vertically positioned spring, impresses with how easy it is to pump and gain speed. Although it is not very stable when pushed with the foot, the Yow Meraki becomes extremely fun as soon as the board is in motion. Tested in our skateshop, the Yow Meraki often ends up being a favorite among our testers.
In the same spirit, beginners and/or those with tighter budgets will appreciate the Long Island Genesis Surfskates. The sensations remain similar to the Yow Meraki, but with a slightly less pronounced character.
Most versatile surfskate for beginners
The Australo-Spanish brand Slide impresses with its ease of use and versatility. Riders who want to mix flat rides, pumping, pumptrack, and bowl skating love it. The value for money is exceptional, and even experienced surf skaters enjoy it.
Best surfskate for the pump track
Although most surfskates can be suitable for riding on a pump track, our favorite is the Carver boards equipped with CX trucks. We appreciate their agility for handling turns (and even correcting trajectories). On straight sections, the Carver CX holds its course without too much wobbling, and allows you, if needed, to carve and pump to gain speed.
Surfskate for tricks and the bowl
For tricks, a low ground clearance allows for more responsive ollies. In this regard, the Carver C5 stands out, bridging the gap between surfskating and classic skateboarding. You still maintain great agility and the ability to pump easily.
Surfskate with a Longboard Surf Spirit
The beach promenades are calling, and like a Californian surfer, you let yourself be carried away by the pleasure of smooth curves. With or without a paddle stick, Hamboards are a pure embodiment of longboard spirit, with boards that, though long, remain agile and maneuverable. With Hamboards, you'll be able to cruise on your board and pull off tricks like cross steps, nose riding, and more...
Can't decide between a surfskate and a cruiser?
Halfway between a surfskate and a cruiser, the Yow equipped with the Legasee system is perfect for short urban trips. More stable when pushing with your foot, it becomes very playful, allowing you to weave through anywhere.
As you can see, depending on your use, certain brands and systems will suit you better than others. Don't hesitate to visit us at our store in Fontanil Cornillon (Isère, 10 km from Grenoble, France), where you can test surfskates, Yow, Carver, Slide, Long Island, and more, to form your own opinion.
