Powell Peralta Dragons Wheels: Shapes explained
Powell Peralta is revolutionizing skateboard wheels with its Dragons Formula urethane. Faster, more comfortable, more versatile, and more durable than all other wheels, the Dragons have become the wheel of choice. Now available in multiple shapes and hardness levels, each variation has its own purpose. We explain the different features.
Which Powell Peralta Dragon wheel hardness should I choose?
The Dragon formula is available in 3 hardness levels: 88A (softer), 93A, and 97A (harder).
Although each one is extremely versatile, we recommend the 88A for rough terrains (cobblestones, cracked ground, coarse asphalt). Its vibration absorption will allow you to skate on surfaces that are usually inaccessible with a skateboard.
For mixed use between street and skatepark, the 93A Dragons will provide the perfect balance between comfort and speed.
If you mainly skate on smooth surfaces, the 97A will offer you maximum speed.
Across all three formulas, the glide quality remains smooth and enjoyable on any surface.
Which shape of Powell Peralta Dragon wheel should I choose?
4 main shapes stand out:
The classics (V1, V4, V6) are skateboard-standard wheels with a narrow or medium width. These are the most agile wheels for performing tricks.
The Nano Cubics are distinguished by a very old-school shape, with a wide contact patch and a very rounded outer lip that covers the truck nut. This is a wheel made famous by Andy Anderson with his trick "coconut roll," where he rolls on the side of the wheels.
The Nano Rats are a mix between standard wheels and Nano Cubics. With an intermediate width, Nano Rats are more stable than standard wheels. The axle nut is partially or completely protected by the lip. The inner face is shaped to better lock in during grinds.
The DF-88 bridges the gap between street, cruising, and park. Comfortable on rough terrain like a soft wheel, and fast like a hard wheel in a skatepark, the DF-88 pushes the limits of what can be skated, opening up new playing horizons. Available in various widths, the narrowest being the most agile, and the widest being more stable and comfortable on rough ground.
