About Steve Caballero
Steve Caballero is a Californian skateboarder born in 1964 to Mexican and Japanese parents. He turned pro in 1980 and continues to skate professionally to this day. His favorite playgrounds are bowls and vert ramps. Steve Caballero's career is remarkable: he invented numerous tricks (such as the Caballerial and Frontside Boardslide), became world champion in vert and street skating in 1987, and was named Skater of the Year in 1981 and 1984. In 1999, Thrasher magazine awarded him the title of Skater of the Century.
Steve has been riding for Powell Peralta since 1984 and was part of the legendary Bones Brigade team alongside Tony Hawk, Rodney Mullen, Lance Mountain, Mike McGill, and Nicky Guerrero. He is also the first skateboarder to have a signature shoe model—the iconic Vans Half Cab, which is still being produced over 20 years later. Steve Caballero's skateboards are often adorned with a dragon, a nod to his Asian heritage.
In addition to his busy pro skating career, Steve is also a talented singer and guitarist, performing in bands such as The Faction, Soda, Odd Man Out, and Urethane.
Video game enthusiasts know Steve Caballero as a playable character in the PlayStation game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater.
