Review: Antik Skyhawk Best do It all roller skates?
Skyhawk are the new "do it all" roller skates (Roller derby / Park / Walk) made for the main market by Antik Skates. Skyhawk takes up the main lines that have made the success of the Antik roller skates. Unlike other models of the brand, the Skyhawk are not handcrafted in the USA workshop, but are series made in larger factory. This makes it possible to offer a skate that is still of high quality, but at a greatly reduced price.
The Skyhawk Boots
Antik Skyhawk presents a high shoe with the possibility of stopping the lacing at mid-height if you want more freedom of ankle movement (which is generally the case in roller derby skating). Foot support is efficient and reassuring. The boot shape provides good heel support, which limits the risk of ankle injuries.
The inside of the boot is covered with a micro fiber liner for more confort and to avoid bad smells
Rubber outsole with integrated EVA heel wedge for shock absorbsion and vibration reduction
100% vegan boot with abrasion-resistant tuff-scuff synthetic leather toe
Setting
Skyhawks are set with Powerdyne Thrust nylon plates (the same ones as the one used on Riedell R3). The plates are compatible with ajustable 5/8" us stem toe stops(factory set with black Powerdyne stoppers) and come with aluminum trucks. Plates are light weight and versatile. They would please the needs of most begenner to intermediate riders.
You can find the Antik Skyhawk sold with various settings:
_ With Radar Sonar Stratus 57mm 98A wheels for Park skating
_ With Radar Sonar Aura 59mm 88A or 92A wheels for Roller Derby
_ With Radar Sonar Zen 62mm 85A wheels for outdoor and cruising
_ Without wheels, so you can choose a more customised wheels and bezarings setting
In conclusion, the Antik Skyhawks are excellent all-round Roller Derby / Park / Outdoor skates and stand alone in this market niche and this price range. The Skyhawks could well be the ideal skates for anyone who wants to practice several disciplines with a single high-performance skate. The Skyhawks, by their simplified design, are aimed at a beginner and intermediate level audience. The most experienced will prefer the Antik AR2 with CNC machined aluminum plates, which are stronger and even more efficient.
Tips: Top pimp your Skyhawks, we recommand to replace the stppers with Gumball Toe stops. For better performance in park, you can set CIB slide blocks on your plates
