Wich wheels to use for skateboarding in a bowl?
Do you want to do serious bowl skating? Wondering why some riders have such an easy time maintaining speed and height? Yes, riding technique is very important, but so is choosing the right wheels. By following a few simple rules, everything would comes easier!..
Diameter size
Wheel diameter has a direct impact on acceleration and maintaining speed. Smaller wheels will have better acceleration, but will saturate more in speed, and will maintain its speed for less time.
Conversely, wider wheels will pick up speed more gradually, but will maintain its speed for longer.
In the pool, a diameter of 56mm to 58mm is the best compromise. If you ride a small board, prefer 56mm wheels. otherwise, 58mm will be ideal.
Width
In bowl skating, we prefer a slightly wider wheel than for street. The extra width will both increase grip and stability.
Durometer
Depending on how smooth is the concrete, the hardness of a bowl skate wheel would range from 90A to 100A. Softer wheels are more suitable for uneven or damaged surfaces, and have a little more grip. The hardest wheels are more suitable for very smooth surfaces, they grip less, but are faster.
Popular bowl wheels: Powell Peralta Rodriguez 58mm, Mini Logo A-Cut Hybrid 58mm, Slime Balls 56mm Brains Speed Balls.
Those wheel tips are for skateboarding only. For bowl riding with a surfskate, choose wheels between 58mm and 65mm in diameter, narrow tread, rounded lips, and a hardness between 80A and 90A (Ex: Cinetic Nebula)
