Review: Landyachtz Stratus Longboard Dancer
Among the very wide selection of longboard dancing boards, the Landyachtz Stratus regularly emerges as the board of choice, both for beginners and more advanced skaters. Let's take a closer look at what is hidden behind this famous Stratus
The Landyachtz company
If you don't know Landyachtz yet, Landy is a Canadian company based in Vancouver. Founded in the early 2000s, Landyachtz is led by a team of passionate and multi-disciplinary longboarders. At the head of the founding team, there are several downhill world champions. Landy strives to develop longboards for riders of any skill levels, from complete beginners, to experienced competitors. The products are all developed and tested in close collaboration with riders. For the green note, Landy undertakes to plant a tree for each board they sell.
Landyachtz Stratus: Technical specificities
Lenght: 45.5"
Width: 9.25"
Wheelbase: 27.5"-29.5"
Construction: 8-Ply Canadian Maple
Concave: Low
Shape: symetrical double kicks
Flex Medium
Landyachtz Stratus has technical characteristics perfectly suited to dancing, with wide and correctly dosed kicks. The low concave is nice underfoot, allowing for natural foot placement and just enough leverage to easily snap into turns. The board is long enough to leave you free to move along the board: Cross steps,..
In terms of weight and solidity, we have a high quality maple wood construction and an average weight for this type of board. The most experienced riders may find the board a little heavy compared to fiber or hollow core decks (such as Rocket Linum). The solidity is faithful to the expectations of a beginner and intermediate audience
For smaller riders and/or those looking for more agility on Freestyle tricks, the Stratus also exists in a 40" version named Tony Danza.
The Setting
The Landyachtz Stratus has griptape applied on kicks only, so you get more freedom to move your feet along the deck.
The Bear Grizzly Gen 6 50° 180mm Trucks are of very good quality (big evolution since the Gen 5), agile and pleasant underfoot, with a feeling of ride quite similar to the Paris V3.
The Bear Space Ball Abec 7 steel balls bearings with built-in spacers are robust and offer good speed performance. The integrated spacers make the ride more precise, the glide more fluid, and preserve the integrity of the wheels cores.
The Hawgs Fatties 63mm 78A wheels are soft and comfortable. The stone grounded finish makes it easy to glide from the first slide. The large contact patch provides stability and fun ride on all terrains.
Landyachtz hits hard on the quality of the components. Complete boards are ready to ride and do not require any upgrading. On this point, Landy is a step ahead of other brands in this price range.
