How to skateboard in a pumptrack?

Are you new to pumptrack and struggling with pumping and handling turns? Don't panic, by following a few basic tips, you'll quickly succeed in stringing together laps on the track.

For complete beginners who are new to this, a pumptrack is a track with bumps made of asphalt (sometimes wood). The goal is to ride the track and keep moving without ever touching the ground to push yourself forward. Pumptrack can be enjoyed with various equipment such as bicycles, rollerblades, scooters, or skateboards. The basic principle remains the same. If you're reading this article, you're probably part of the skateboarder family (Good on you!).

The basic principle for moving forward and gaining speed is the same as for a swing. You need to lighten your body by extending it on the uphill sections, and increase pressure on your board on the downhill sections by slightly bending your legs. By repeating these movements and staying flexible on your legs, you will quickly be able to maintain your initial speed and then generate even more speed.

Now comes the time to take the first turns... Take a deep breath, don't be intimidated, and look for the exit of the curve. Instinctively, the skateboard's trajectory will follow your gaze. By going as high as possible at the entrance of the turn and pushing with your legs on the way out, the raised turn will be a valuable ally to help you accelerate.
