Surfskate: Wich wheels to use?
You already have a surfskate and you are looking for fresh wheels? Here are a few advices to help you in your choice...
First of it, you must define what is the main surfskate type of use: pumping (pumptrack, cruising), bowl and slide oriented, or mixed use. From there you will need wheels with the more or less traction grip.
Surfskate Pumping (Pumptrack, Cruising)
For pumping without loosing grip, we recomand higher traction wheels. Those wheels have a wide contact patch and square lips. Softer wheels usualy have more grip too. To save energy and keep your speed longer, wheels size 65mm to 70mm are a good choice. The durometer would range from 78A to 82A. Use softer wheels if you are comonly surfskating on rough pavments. If you skate mostly on smooth surfaces, in this case, you can use harder wheels.
Examples: Yow Ura 66mm, Orangatang Love Handle 65mm, Carver Roundhouse Concave 69mm
Surfskate Slides & Bowl
If you're into sliding and want to be able to send slashes easily, then we advise you to go for smaller wheels (60mm to 65mm) and even more importantly, with a narrower contact patch anda rounded lip profile. The hardness may also be higher and will generally oscillate between 80A and 86A, and up to 90A if you are riding concrete bowls. This type of wheels will let you launch slides with a minimum of effort.
Examples: Cinetic Nebula 60mm, Carver Roundhouse Park 58mm, Orangatang Fat Free 65mm
Surfskate Mixed use
For a mixed use, we would recomend wheels size 65mm to 70mm with a durometer ranging from 80A to 84A. Traction shape wheels made with harder coumpounds or with a freeride formula would gives good results. You can also choose wheels with an intermediate contact patch width.
Examples: Hawgs Supreme 70mm, Cinetic Crop 66mm(80A & over), Carver Roundhouse Mag 65mm, Slide surfskates 70mm
